Mama Cash and AWID are partnering with theguardian.com to create a new ‘women’s rights and gender equality in-focus section’ on their global development website. The section launched on Tuesday, 4 February 2014 and provides a specific focus on the pressing issues affecting women, girls, and trans* people around the world and the critical work being carried out by women’s rights and feminist movements globally. With the Guardian’s global reach of over 82 million unique browsers a month and it’s position of influence with policy makers especially internationally and in the Global North, AWID and Mama Cash see this partnership as an important opportunity to:
- bring a rights based analysis to a broad and powerful audience
- increase the visibility of women’s rights organising and make the case for more and better
- resources for women’s rights advocates, organisations and movements
- influence key global policy processes and debates related to the post-2015 agenda
- raise the visibility of women human rights defenders at risk
- support more diverse voices to frame debates and set priorities about women’s, girls and trans* people’s rights and the changes that are needed at global, regional and national levels
AWID and Mama Cash are advisory partners who will offer ideas to the Guardian editorial team and help link the Guardian team with diverse women’s rights advocates, organisations and movements around the world. The Guardian is solely responsible for all journalistic output and all editorial content is strictly independent. If you would like to share suggestions for women’s rights issues, strategies, process or events that you would like to see covered on the in-focus section, you can share your ideas here. All suggestions collected through this online form will be shared directly with the Guardian editorial team. If you have questions or concerns about this project, you can email: hello@mamacash.org and/or contact@awid.org. – See more at: http://www.mamacash.org/news/new-womens-rights-and-gender-equality-hub-o…
